Goal Interpretation:

Prior to taking senior inquiry I thought that communication was just merely talking. I didn't understand the full complexity that the skill holds. It is a skill that can be worked on and developed through rigorous work and practice. Over time you can see yourself being able to communicate well with others and able to convey the message that you want to share.. Because of this class and the assignments that we were given I was able to go out of my comfort zone and try to share my ideas and thoughts with others. When you actually develop the skills in our successful doing so you put yourself at an advantage because you are able to communicate all of your ideas and thoughts through different ways. There are lots of different ways in order to do so. You can communicate through art, verbal expression, music and many other medians. Personally, communication has been something that I've always struggled with because I get really nervous in front of people and it's really difficult for me to show what I am thinking and put it on paper  especially with words. So, I really made an effort this year to push myself in this year and I think now that I will be blessed for my efforts.

Towards the beginning of the year I was consistently unable to demonstrate this skill proficiently making it one of my weaker targets. On the Persepolis test we took at the beginning of the year, I couldn't find the words to describe what the author was trying to get across and how it applied to the prompt. However, growth was shown throughout the year and I ended up doing well on the Mrs. Dalloway Test, because I had practiced and learned how to take text from a novel and communicate my personal applications and opinions on that.

A verbal assessment that helped me with communication was the Public Art Final. I had to learn how to prepare to talk in front of others instead of just handing a physical document. I learned that timing is essential and how to manage that time you are given to not go over or under the allotted amount of time given. I had to speak clearly and loud enough for others to understand what I was saying. Probably most importantly, I had to come prepared to know the material I was presenting. I had a notecard to look down at if I forgot what to say but other than that it was really important to be confident in yourself and in the information you are presenting. Because of Senior Inquiry, my skills in communicating have gone up significantly and I’m sure that because of this I will be better equipped when I go to college and pursue a career.

Communication

"students will enhance their capacity to communicate in various ways—writing, graphics, numeracy, and other visual and oral means—to collaborate effectively with others in group work, and to be competent in appropriate communication technologies."
