Goal Interpretation:

I think of diversity as something that naturally comes with being human, as everyone having their own perspectives. I understand now as I am at the end of year in Senior Inquiry, that what our teachers aimed for was not for everyone to go through the same experiences, but for us to understand what our classmates and others around the world have to go through. Even having just that simple understanding of this can dramatically change an individual’s perspective. It makes me, personally, have a greater appreciation for the things I have and motivates me to do something about the circumstances others have been dealt and how to help them.

A character I discussed in the Mrs. Dalloway Test was Clarissa Dalloway herself. I found her view on the world within the text and compared it to other characters like Peter, and Septimus who also had interesting takes on the world we all live in. The time period and circumstances added a different twist on the story but yet it was still relatable enough to compare our lives as seniors to those in the book. Existentialism was a theme throughout the book and many other assignments that made me look at the world differently. I could relate that existential view on the world to many points in my life where I had no idea where I was going and what my purpose was in everything. Especially at this point in my life where critical decisions are being made that determine my future, its important for me to know what my desires are out of life and solidifying that into my character for the time to come.

I saw when I peer reviewed my peer’s papers in the Personal Context Narrative assignment, stories that really opened my eyes to the things students go through. I consider myself lucky in my situation that I have because I do have problems but some have way more obstacles than I have have to deal with. It was an assignment that was a little more personal and from the heart, more than any other assignment that I've ever written.

All people are different. That uniqueness means everyone experiences life differently which is something special we can all share with each other.

In the assignment Persepolis, the character of Marjane Satrapi has to go through a lot in her life and has to move to a lot of different places. She is exposed to a lot of different cultures and how they are effected by the government condition. Because of this, I saw her change and develop much as I feel I have this year to a certain extent in my views of others. I'm striving to be more accepting and kind to others no matter their background and choices because we all have our baggage .

The Diversity of Human Experience

"Students will enhance their appreciation for and understanding of the rich complexity of the human experience through the study of differences in ethnic and cultural perspectives, class, race, gender, sexual orientation, and ability."
